Visa extension applied to all regulated professions in health and care

Liaison Workforce

NHS Employers has reported that the automatic one-year visa extension for NHS workers is being applied to further roles and will now include all regulated professions in health and care, across both the NHS and the independent sector.

The extension, which applies to visas expiring before 1 October 2020, previously applied only to NHS nurses, doctors and paramedics. However, those employed in a wider range of roles, including radiographers, midwives and social workers, will also now be eligible.

The extension is exempt from fees, including the immigration health surcharge. Employers and/or workforce leaders will need to share details of eligible staff with the Home Office.

Judith Shaw, Managing Director of Liaison Workforce, said: “We are pleased to hear that the one-year extension for NHS workers is now being applied to increased roles across the UK. It’s no secret that staff shortages are one of the NHS’s biggest issues, and anything to open up roles within our health and care service is to be welcomed.”
